Book ô The Prairie Thief Å Melissa Wiley

The Prairie ThiefIn this delightful mash up of Little House on the Prairie and The Spiderwick ChroniclesSLJ experience life on the prairie with one fantastical twist Louisa Brody's life on the Colorado prairie is not at all what she expected Her dear Pa accused of thievery is locked This book is an absolutely delightful read It has all the whimsy of a Laura Ingalls Wilder book but with great lingering uestions to keep you reading along at a great pace I am particularly enjoying reading this aloud to my 9 year old son The little brownie on the cover has a Scottish accent that is fun to do And he is a gruff yet endearing character If you are looking for a good clean read aloud this is excellent Since there is a little bit of mentioning of her Pa potentially being hanged this could be better reserved for a little older audience but you’d have to gauge that yourself of course This is on our great modern reads list along with Green Ember series by SD Smith the Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson and the Wilderking Trilogy by Jonathan Rogers I am so glad we are finding such great books to read with our children while they are youngWe are reading this book for a second time It really is a delightful book and I highly recommend it

Melissa Wiley Å The Prairie Thief Text

Down it's up to Louisa her sassy friend Jessamine and that cranky secret to save Pa from a guilty verdict Ten bold illustrations from Erwin Madrid accompany seasoned storyteller Melissa Wiley's vibrant and enchanting tale of life on the prairie with one magical twis Melissa Wiley is a wonderful author She also wrote two of the Little House series one about Laura Ingalls Wilder's grandmother Charlotte and one about her great grandmother Martha Both wonderful series I love how Wiley writes her books from the point of view of the child For instance in the first Charlotte book the war of 1812 is going on but Charlotte wonders why the adults are so worried about a far off war when they should be worried about the fact that the British blockade has made it impossible for their family to get molasses for their Saturday suppers It makes for very charming reading which is also evident in The Prairie Thief Although the beginning and middle of this book were tense and might be scary for a child the ending made up for it in sweetness Heart warming
