But he won't let it die and is determined to bring Rachel down using all the resources at his disposal to dig up all the dirt he can find on Rachel Trent and anyone else in her lifeThe book is laid out in a dossier format—with file folders post its and taped in cards and pages—really fun to read And while it isn't really a story in the true sense of the word a story is indeed being told through its pages We discover some little known facts about Rachel and the gang get some reminders about some of the important points in her life and even get a map of the Hollows and downtown Cincinnati We've also got several interoffice notes and memos between Trent and uen and Trent and Jonathan obviously dug up somehow by the reporter and through this we also come to understand how or why certain events that took place in the book happenedI'm really glad I grabbed the print version of this book—hardcover actually—as I'm not sure it would be readable on the Kindle maybe on a Fire where you could read it in full color and have full size pages but don't even think of trying to read it on an e ink device like the Paperwhite or Voyage the latter being what I own But I totally loved it and plan to hang onto it as a keepsake for one of my favorite series of all time

READER Æ The Hollows Insider ✓ Kim Harrison

D now written by Kim Harrison herself here is an insider's look at the supernatural world of the Hollows from an overarching new story to character profiles maps spell guides charm recipes secret correspondence from the elusive Trent Kalamack and much Enter the world of the Hollows like never beforeOne misfired spell is all it took to sent investigative reporter Devin Crossman on a mission to uncover all the secrets of bounty hunting witch Rachel Morgan and expose them to the worl I honestly have mixed feelings about this On the one hand it was a really cool idea to bring all the facts and fun stuff about the Hollows series into one guide book for readers It even has a nice story behind its creation The good I really love the recipes spells and cute tidbits The 12 Days of Christmas song lyrics were my favorite touch But there's a lot of things I didn't like It was a drag to get through some stuff I assume a lot of people reading this skimmed a lot I never skimbut I did with this A lot I read all the overarching story pages though only so I wouldn't lose track of Crossman's story Also I have a thing about the plot line Crossman says that he's been outside watching and that the pixies always caught him or pixed him or that he somehow managed to sneak in and get pictures and stuff from the church where Rachel lives Yet we never heard about this in the actual series? I also think that him guessing all the things correctly how he knew Rachel was DNA'd to be a demon how he knew Ivy liked Rachel things like that you can't get simply from watching people and not interacting with them Even if he did so some research a lot of things he assumed were waaaaaay too informed But it's a nice book for casual reading which is why I read it as a side project while I'm doing my read along If you're looking for a simple guidebook full of silly goodies I'd suggest this

Kim Harrison ✓ The Hollows Insider PDF

The Hollows InsiderNew York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison has won legions of fans with her sexy supernatural novels featuring bounty hunting witch Rachel Morgan And now comes a uniue look inside her beloved Hollows series that no fan should miss The Hollows Insider In the Hollows the supernatural Inderlanders rule and humanity must abide by their conventions or elseTo survive among vampires witches Weres gargoyles trolls fairies and banshees to say nothing of demons humanity needs a guide An Ms Harrison has outdone herself I had no idea of what to expect when it came to a world book I’d surely never read one before so I was anticipating something fairly close to a textbook which generally boring This was certainly information rich but boring is was not In fact it’s fantastic The theme is genius It kicks off with the Hollows humor we all know and love instantly drawing you in It’s basically told from the POV of an innocent bystander of one of Rachel’s spells gone hilariously wrong in her early days as an IS Intern He takes his grudge to the next level and spends time spying and collecting information on our favorite itchy witch and the supporting Hollows characters He works for the local Inderlander paper and his goal is to expose Rachel He’s not having an easy time of it which makes things all the entertaining so in turn this is how we learn about everything from species facts character profiles maps magic spells demon curses recipes music lyrics and Normally when I crack open a Hollows book I want a new story but reading about the Hollows world is uite fascinating and surprisingly enough while I already knew some of the facts I did learn a couple of new things when it came to character insights and spells It repeats some lines a couple of times depending on the sections but I didn’t find it annoying You can tell Harrison really did her homework She references the smallest things from the previous novels even Rachel and Ivy’s mistakenly suggestive Yellow Page ad from Book 3 I also liked the clarification of the different magic types between ley line earth and demon magic I wish there was a little explanation about “wild” magic that the elves typically use but that didn’t stop my enjoyment one bit You can skim or skip sections if you want or you can take your time and truly absorb the information It’s definitely an adjustment to have that option for The HollowsYou pick it up and you really don’t want to put it down The layout and graphics are very nice to look at which helps a lot Reluctantly I couldn’t read it in one sitting being the busy bee that I am but it was on my mind until I could get back to finishing it Heck I want to read it TWICE and you will NEVER hear me say that about a text bookIf you’re an ebook reader don’t despair It’s not available in ebook format due to numerous graphics and font variations I cannot imagine this looking remotely appealing on my kindle or even on a color e reader It’s a reference text and I always find reading those on an ereader to be an awful experience because I often flip back and forth between pages; ebooks just don’t hold up to that for me So yes I found this to be a satisfying read and it no doubt sets the bar extremely high for any other world books I come across This is highly recommended if you’re a fan of The Hollows though you will want to be caught up through Pale Demon because there are major spoilers
